Aieta Promising Teacher AwardThe Aieta Promising Teacher Award Each year the Massachusetts Council for the Social Studies presents the Aieta Promising Teacher Award, named in memory of Dick Aieta. Dick was an extraordinary social studies educator, whose talents enriched social studies education in the Commonwealth. The Promising Teacher Award is presented annually to a social studies teacher, new to the profession, who has made an impact on his/her students, colleagues and/ or the community during their first five years of teaching. The award is presented during the Northeast Regional Conference for the Social Studies sponsored by the Massachusetts Council for the Social Studies. The teacher selected will receive NERC registration and one night stay at the hotel, membership to NCSS, MCSS and Local Council and $100 to purchase curriculum materials. In return the Promising Teacher agrees to write an article for NEWSLINE on the NERC or on a Social Studies topic of his/her choice and present at a future NERC. Any member of MCSS can nominate a teacher for this award. The process would require the nominating member to submit a letter, which explains why they have nominated this individual. It should include comments on the impact this individual has had on his/her students, colleagues and/or the community.
